The Right Place to Learn

Finding the right school made all the difference in how I show up, learn, and move forward in life.

Schooling has been one of the more defining parts of my experience since moving to Colorado.

When I first got here, I enrolled part-time at a local high school. It was fine on the surface, but something felt off. The environment didn’t feel very motivated, and a lot of the students seemed like they didn’t really want to be there. Even classes that I expected to enjoy, like art, felt surprisingly uninspired.

Over time, things started to feel more uncomfortable than just “not a great fit.” There were situations that didn’t sit right with me, and I reached a point where I didn’t feel fully safe or supported. That’s when I made the decision to step away.

Looking back, that decision ended up being one of the best ones I’ve made.

I transitioned into a different school and committed to it fully. I had heard good things going in, and I decided to trust that and give it my full effort. Right away, the difference was clear.

Now, I actually look forward to getting up in the morning. I go to school because I want to be there. I get to see friends who are supportive and engaged, and I’m learning things that actually feel useful for my life and where I’m headed.

I’ve built a routine that I take seriously. I stay consistent with my work, keep my grades up, and show up every day ready to learn. Being present matters to me, and I think that shows in how I approach school now.

Outside of the classroom, I’ve found a balance that works. I stay involved in things like jiujitsu and music, and I’ve kept up with both my in-person and online work. Managing all of that has pushed me to be organized, accountable, and disciplined in a way that feels natural now.

Just as important, I’ve found a solid group of people to be around. Having that kind of positive community makes a bigger difference than I expected.

Everything together has created an environment where I can actually grow, not just academically, but as a person.

What I’ve learned is that the right environment matters more than just sticking something out. When you’re in a place that supports you, challenges you in the right ways, and gives you room to build something real, everything changes.
